Structure Fire at 12650 N. Rainey Road West
Fri. Jan 26th 2018

The Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded at 1:05 AM to a report of flames on the porch of a structure; the occupants are out of the structure. The North Webster Fire Department is requested for mutual aid with manpower and a tender along with an automatic dispatch of the Benton Township Fire Department with a tender. Upon arrival of the first engine crew, the engine crew reported one structure fully involved with fire and at least two exposures nearby. All occupants are confirmed to be out of the structure. The occupant of the structure reported that her dog had awaken her from sleep by barking. Upon investigation of the dog barking by the occupant, the occupant stated that a fire was located on the outside wall of the structure and the smoke alarms in the structure began to activate at that time. The occupant stated that she then exited the structure with no injury to herself or her dog as a result of the fire. Additional manpower is requested from the Benton Township Fire Department and the Milford Fire Department is requested for an additional tender for water supply. A defensive fire attack is initiated with protection of the exposures on both sides of the fire structure. Both exposure structures are confirmed to be unoccupied. The utility company is requested for electric service disconnect at the utility pole due to electrically charged utility lines on the ground in the area of the structure fire. The natural gas utility supply is discontinued at the meter by fire department personnel. The fire is brought under control at 1:53 AM. Salvage and overhaul completed. The fire is ruled as accidental after investigation. The structure and contents are ruled a total loss with damages estimated at up to $110,000.00. Damages to the structures on both sides of the fire structure due to exposure are minimal with a total damage estimate of $1,000.00 each. The last fire crews cleared the scene at 5:09 AM.
